The Challenge

The Pengrowth Lindbergh Project is an 18,000 bbl/d Greenfield SAGD facility located near Bonnyville / Cold Lake.

Scovan provided engineering for the CPF, 32 well pairs and 10 infills over 4 modular well pads, power cogeneration facilities, connected over 3km of surface pipeline, a LACT unit and a 15km sales pipeline. The challenge was to design and build this new thermal facility using the most advanced techniques and philosophies and to meet their schedule, cost and sustainability requirements.

The Approach

Scovan designed the Lindbergh project as a modular facility with evaporators, packaged boilers and onsite power generation.

Central Processing Facility:
Scovan used new innovations such as precast concrete walls and flooring to reduce field construction time and safety incidents.

Well Pads:
Scovan utilized their templated, modular well pad design that includes major process equipment and is flexible to various production methods. The standardized design improved constructibility which allowed for an accelerated schedule from design to installation with 75 days from piles to commissioning.

Scovan used a modular approach for the Evaporator towers that reduced the building footprint by 55%. The use of pre-cast concrete foundations for the Evaporator Towers and Vapour Washers reduced the field construction timeline by 50% for tower setting versus traditional pour in place foundations.

The project was executed on a fixed cost basis with < 3% engineering change orders or trends over the course of the project.

The Outcome

Pengrowth Lindbergh Greenfield SAGD Facility Phase 1

The Project Was Completed On Schedule, And The On-Stream Reliability For Phase 1 Was >98% After The First Three Years Of Operation, And Exceeded Nameplate Production By More Than 25%.
